Assessment Plan
In most professions, an important part of being successful is to participate in some form of assessment. Whether this assessment is personal or done by an employer, this assessment is a key aspect in determining how well one is performing. This same idea is implemented in education. As a teacher, one sure way to success is through assessing the students through multiple ways. As a prospective teacher, it is important I know what my assessment plan is.
When planning how to assess students, it is crucial to understand the options available. The main types of assessment are summative and formative assessment. Formative assessment is when a teacher monitors throughout a unit and provides consistent feedback; summative assessment is when the teacher tests achievement and competence at the end of a unit. In my future classroom, I plan on implementing both of these aspects. In order to better focus my lessons, I will begin with a pretest for a unit; by using pretests, I can better determine what I need to focus on and how I can better teach the information. As I’m teaching the lesson, I plan to use informal assessment, a type of formative assessment, to assess the students and their progress. In informal assessment, I will focus on facial expressions, reaction to my teaching approach. In addition, I will use formal assessment in the form of questions so I can test their understanding of the subject. In addition to these, I plan on using end of unit tests. By testing the students, I test their understanding of the subject and I am able to compare their pretests to the post tests to see if they are grasping the concepts and to better my teaching approach.
In addition to assessing student learning, it is important to assess my teaching approaches and plans. By assessing student learning, as a teacher I will be more able to see how well my students are learning the knowledge and whether my approaches are successful. From seeing their progress, I will become a better teacher and be able to revise my philosophy and my approach in presenting new information
Assessment is key to being a successful teacher and having students who excel. By creating a plan now, I hope to be able to implement assessment strategies that will enable me to help the students and instill confidence and excitement to my future students.
