Child Care

With the world changing and the economy causing many people to go back to work, the idea of families are dwindling. Many families are sending their children to day cares or babysitters while they go work. Children who go to child care centers or day care centers usually learn new things and begin to grow in different ways than other children, sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst.

As I think about the changing economy and the way family is changing I think about my future and what I plan to do with my children. In a situation where I would have my ideal outcome, I would stay at home with my children and go back to school when they’re old enough to stay at home alone for an hour. In a situation where I can’t have my ideal outcome I would begin to worry about some things. In a child care center where children are left with an adult or a few, I would worry about the safety of my child. If a center isn’t safe, I wouldn’t want my child there. Another aspect I would worry about it the content and the quality of the environment my child is going to be subject to. Another aspect I would worry about is what my child is learning from other peers and what the teacher is doing to make sure they aren’t being influenced poorly. I would have a very hard time accepting that I couldn’t be there to help them through every step of the way. While think about this I can’t help thinking about how my opinions would change if my child were an infant rather than a toddler. In a situation where I had to send an infant to a child care center, I would be as nervous. For one, the child isn’t going to understand what’s going on and as long as they take care of the infant I know it will be the same as how I left it. From this it is learned that in different situations, child care can be beneficial or harmful.

Another aspect that is important to consider while looking for a child care facility is the type of care it offers. I plan on sending my child to preschool to prepare them for grade school. My family participated in the preschool programs and I believe it’s beneficial. When I send my child to preschool I believe it is important to figure out which program you think will be most beneficial and learn about each preschool you can send your child to. In my case I prefer to send them to an academic preschool rather than a child-centered preschool. An academic preschool environment will set the path for my child to learn and will allow me to implement good learning skills early in life.

In all, understanding what care centers offer and the quality of each center is an important thing to understand. Care centers are a place for children to learn and develop skills that sometimes cannot be learned at home, but child care centers come with a price and knowledge is imperative.

Reflection:

By taking FHS 1500 at Salt Lake Community College, I learned a  lot about what I have been wanting to go into. From this class I learned what I am capable of, throughout my schooling, things have always come very easily to me, I retain information easily and am able to get good grades, this class was no exception. From this class I learned that teaching is definitely what I want to do and how to do it more effectively. By learning the facts and information in this class, I have learned things that will help me to be a more successful teacher and to understand my students better. By taking this class, I have helped my future for the better and am more prepared for success.
